Leeds Town Hall
Standing at the front of Leeds town hall to the left of the building are these wonderful heads or keystones. They are obscured slightly by railings and the area is used for bins, which is a shame. They are wonderful well worth a look.

Hi, my husband is curious to find out if the ‘keystone heads’ on Leeds Town Hall depict particular people and if so who?
Thank you
Hi, The heads are Apollo (laurel wreath), Cuthbert Brodrick (the architect of the town hall) as Zeus (curls), Dionysus (vine leaves), Heracles (lionskin), Hermes (winged cap), Ares (curled helmet), Poseidon (sea urchin crown), Aphrodite (scallop shell crown), Hades (king of the Underworld) the Mayor of Leeds (brick crown), and two portraits of Robert Mawer (with feather in cap and with crown). Hope that helps, Thanks Marcus
